Responding to Canadian Complicity

Phone/Fax/Email Campaign Against Canadian Complicity in Israeli War Crimes in Gaza
In response to the ongoing Israeli bombardment on Gaza, Tadamon! (http://www.tadamon.ca/post/2517) is calling on people to directly contact Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lawrence Cannon.

Please take a couple of minutes to directly call the offices for both the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to demand: that Canada call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, a cessation of the ongoing Israeli siege on Gaza and for Canada to address the root cause for the current violence: Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory and the denial of the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes.

Saturday September 27th
11am – 4pm
SFU Harbour Centre

Throughout the decades of Israeli military occupation, Palestinians from all walks of life have been illegally detained by Israel. Since 1967, more than 650,000 Palestinians have been detained by Israel in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. This forms approximately 20% of the total Palestinian population of the Occupied Palestinian Territories and 40% of the total male population. At present, an estimated 10,000 Palestinians are in prison because of their refusal to accept foreign occupation and ongoing Israeli colonization.

CanWest Huffs and Puffs while Free Speech Burns

By Carel Moiseiwitsch and Gordon Murray

In June 2007, the Palestine Media Collective produced a newspaper parody of the Vancouver Sun that satirized CanWest’s anti-Palestinian bias with articles such as “Study Shows Truth Biased Against Israel” by Cyn Sorsheep. Six months later, CanWest Mediaworks Publications Inc. launched a lawsuit against those “conspiring” to produce and distribute the parody. The original writ named Mordecai Briemberg, Horizon Publications, and six Jane and John Does.

JNF Fundraiser Disrupted by Palestine Solidarity Activists

On Sunday June 14th, the Jewish National Fund held their annual fundraising banquet in Vancouver at the Four Seasons Hotel. The JNF is one of the primary organizations responsible for the historic and ongoing colonization of Palestinian lands for the development of Jewish-only settlement. This has resulted in the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, and contributed to the apartheid system in Israel. Despite its racist history and policies, the JNF is granted status as a charity in Canada, enabling it to raise millions of dollars through tax-deductible donations, including at the annual fundraising dinners held across Canada.

Rally to End the Siege of Gaza

STOP THE SIEGE OF GAZA!
Rally Against Israeli Apartheid
Sunday, February 10th at 3pm
Vancouver Art Gallery

Part of international events for Israel Apartheid Week: http://apartheidweek.org/

For over two years, the Canadian government has been a staunch supporter of a comprehensive siege and sanctions regime against the Gaza Strip. In response to the Palestinian elections in January 2006, Israel has pursued a policy of collective punishment against the 1.5 million residents of Gaza, severely restricting all shipments of food, medical supplies, fuel, and humanitarian aid in an effort to pressure Gazans to bring down their elected government.

Film Screening of 'Occupation 101'

FILM SCREENING OF 'OCCUPATION 101' AND PRESENTATION BY JON ELMER
Thursday Jan 10, 2007 at 7pm
Rhizome Cafe, 317 East Broadway
Admission by donation, no one turned away

The Boycott Israeli Apartheid Campaign presents an evening of information and discussion focused on the Gaza Strip. On January 10, freelance journalist Jon Elmer will provide an update on the current dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. We will also be screening "Occupation 101", which explores the historical context and roots of the siege including Israel's so-called "withdrawal" from the Gaza Strip in 2005. “Occupation 101” is a powerful documentary unlike any other film on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It features first-hand on-the-ground experiences from leading Middle East peace activists, journalists, scholars, religious leaders and humanitarian workers whose voices have too often been suppressed in North American media outlets.

Joel Kovel: Zionism and its Discontents

Thursday, September 20th @ 7pm
Simon Fraser University, Harbour Centre
515 West Hastings - Room 1700

“Certainly, there are a lot of people who consider themselves to be on the left and also Zionists. It is a contradiction, however, to advocate the cause of universal justice while still supporting the Zionist project of conquest. This is an untenable position that must be ideologically and politically combated because it weakens both the overall struggles of the left and the struggle against Zionism. To me, you cannot be on the left, in a meaningful sense, and still support the state of Israel-it is like saying that you can be left-wing and still support U.S. imperialism.” Briarpatch Magazine, August 2007

Rally to Mark 25th Anniversary of Sabra and Shatila Massacre

NO MORE MASSACRES!
END ISRAELI APARTHEID!
Sunday September 16th 2007 @ 1 pm
Vancouver Art Gallery
On September 16th, 1982 the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila were occupied and invaded under the direction of the Israeli military. For three days, unarmed Palestinian refugees were raped, slaughtered and buried in mass graves by Lebanese Phalangist militias acting under the orders of the Israeli military. Over 2,000 people were killed, the vast majority hom were women, children and the elderly, in one of the most brutal massacres in recent history.
