Video: Deepa Kumar – Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire

Deepa Kumar, Associate Professor of Media Studies and Middle Eastern Studies at Rutgers University, spoke at four events in the Vancouver area from March 2-5, 2013, at Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, Kwantlen Polytechnic University and Langara College, on Islamophobia and the politics of empire.

This video, provided by the Seriously Free Speech Committee, presents Deepa Kumar’s talk on the evening of March 2.

Her book titled Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire (Haymarket Books, 2012), looks at how the “Muslim enemy” has historically been mobilized to suit the goals of empire.
