THANK YOU to all who attended the sold-out fundraising evening to support the “Disappearing Palestine” transit advertising campaign in Vancouver.
The fundraising evening, on July 25, with delicious food and the warm hospitality of Tamam: Fine Palestinian Cuisine in Vancouver, raised over $1500 in net proceeds to bring these transit advertisements to buses and skytrains in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
The Palestine Awareness Coalition has come together to raise funds and plan to bring the visual reality of “disappearing Palestine” to local transit, as has been the case with advertising campaigns that have run in New York, San Francisco, Washington, DC, Portland, OR, and Seattle, and are scheduled to run in Toronto, Montreal and Calgary.
This design will soon be posted as a large wall mural at a TransLink Skytrain station, and a second similar design will be placed on the exterior of Vancouver city buses for a four-week period. Similar campaigns have taken place in New York, San Francisco, Washington, DC and Portland, OR. The four-map posters are also being used in various formats by organizations in several countries.
Although our campaign has just begun, we’ve already reached our minimum goal of $15,000. But transit ads are costly, and if we want to reach lots of people in the greater Vancouver area, we need to raise more, much more.
BIAC is proud to be a member of the coalition alongside Building Bridges Vancouver (BBV), Independent Jewish Voices (IJV), Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights at UBC (SPHR), Canada Palestine Support Network (CanPalNet), Seriously Free Speech (SFS), Near East Cultural and Educational Foundation (NECEF), and Canadian Friends of Sabeel (CFOS).
If you missed the opportunity to attend, and would like to contribute to the project, please consider donating. Please use the online form, or make cheques payable to:
